Sophia Ewens highlighted by U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science

June 30, 2021

Congratulations to Sophia Ewens, a researcher at the Energy Biosciences Institute and 5th-year graduate student in the Department of Plant and Microbial Biology, on her recent publication in the journal PNAS.  The study focuses on microbial redox cycling of phosphorous species, and it was highlighted by a U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science publication, titled “Microbes Use Ancient Metabolism to Cycle Phosphorus."

Ewens research is focused on microbial phosphorous redox cycling as a means of solar energy storage and carbon dioxide capture and conversion.  She is the inaugural  EBI-Shell Research Fellow, which is funded through support from  Shell International Exploration and Production Inc.
